With this girl I was together the time we where studing at Deree College and from the moment we met, we knew we had a lot of things in common. Dimitra Kaldi when you first get to know her, you realize that is a person that likes to enjoy life, to collect experiences, to dress well, to smile, to be together with people and among other things to travel as well!! We met few days ago after a long time and we chat about everything and of course we couln't live fashion and beauty outside our topics as Dimitra is the Marketing and Public Relations Manager of Body Shop in Greece and for sure I couldn't help myself of asking her to make us the city guide of Rome, a city that she knows really well as she been million times and has her in her heart!
She accepted with joy to show us Rome from her point of view, a destination I visited very lately but it was one of my best trips of my life!
I am sure that Dimitra will make you want to visit Rome very soon and I can't blame her.
1. WHICH IS THE BEST SEASON TO VISIT ROME?
The best season for visiting Rome is in the end of spring or in the end of summer.
2. WHAT KIND OF CLOTHES SHOULD I HAVE IN MY LUGGAGE?
Slip-ons for easy walking all day long. According to UNESCO’s data, no other city in the world has more to see than Rome. Casual jeans & t-shirts, long scarves for your all day walks. Remember that Italian women are very well dressed and among the most elegant of the world, so don’t neglect your favourite dresses with your fancy high heels to impress them at your evening aperitivo hour and during your night outs!
3. WHAT IS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE THING ABOUT ROME?
One thing is definitely sure: this city is not named by chance "Città Eterna" that is “EternalCity”. As Picasso said, it is the metropolis with three eternities: of sunshine, of the celestial aura and the music of the skies. The capital city of Italy is a historic and cultural gem that remains unaltered during centuries. There is no such a place or person having an ‘Italy essence’ – Yes, I’m talking about this unique aura, the energy and this unique temperament which overwhelms you, that will not forever stay in your memory! For this reason, in order to discover this town you have to through it.
4. WHICH MONUMENT IS A MUST-SEE?
Rome is a living museum! It has so many things to see! From the Roman Forum, to the magnificent Colosseum, the Capitol, the Baths of Caracalla, amazing museums, the statues and the monuments of the classical Roman architecture style. Among the basics are Saint Peter and the Vatican City - especially the Sistine Chapel(Italian: Cappella Sistina) that imposes a huge majesty made by Michelangelo. I will also never forget the feeling when I first saw the most beautiful fountain of Europe hidden in a small alley, Trevi Fountain. (Italian: Fontana di Trevi). A real masterpiece of art!
5. WHAT SHOULD I AVOID NOT TO WASTE TIME?
To avoid going to Rome! – Nevertheless, if I have to suggest avoiding something is to enter inside the Colloseum. You must queue for a long time for something that is not as rewarding as you may think due to the unstoppable maintenance of the monument.
6. WHICH STORES SHOULD I GO SHOPPING / WHICH ROAD SHOULD I VISIT?
The elite of famous fashion brands meet at Via dei Condotti, with the biggest brands flirting from the heart of Italy. You will definitely visit this road as it is located straight ahead of Piazza di Spagna, so it will be the next thing you will do after your walk there. For a more budget friendly shopping and close to Via dei Condotti is Via del Corso, which connects Piazza Venezia with Piazza del Popolo. Many stores to discover and bring something back to your beloved ones!
7. WHICH IS THE BEST PLACE TO STAY / SUGGESTED HOTELS?
At Via Veneto, an all time chic and classic choice is the Westin Excelsior, a few steps far from Villa Borghese. Another convenient location is also the area around Piazza di Spagna.
8. WHICH RESTAURANTS SHOULD I VISIT?
You have to taste authentic Italian cuisine in a real trattoria with a rustic environment, where Italians go for traditional roman cuisine and Italian specialties. Among the best choices is trattoria Macceroni and the multi-awarded trattoria Alfredo, with an authentic Italian menu and its famous fettuccine Alfredo. Very good restaurants are also ristorante Grano and ristorante Moma.
9. WHAT SHOULD I BUY?
At the small streets around Via del Corso, you will discover amazing clothes, scarves, handbags and sunglasses – that everybody will wear next year but you will wear them this year! Cantuccini, to accompany the aperitivo time that you will definitely host when you come back to your hometown with friends. An original Limoncello or a good bottle of Chianti Classico wine from Tuscany.
10. WHAT KIND OF TRANSPORTATION SHOULD I USE?
Walk! Walk! Walk! Because of the historic centre and the pedestrian roads in the centre of Rome, it is hard to access many places via transportation. The metro is not really convenient, so if you have the option, the best choice it to rent a Vespa scooter – it is also the trademark of Italians or just walk! (Remember: In order to discover Rome, you have to walk through it!).
